According to the Springfield News Leader, this past Saturday, many families hoped to find healthier ways to deal with their anger and stress. This is why they attended the Keeping Your Cool with Your Kids workshop in Springfield.
The workshop was hosted by Ozarks Counseling Center and funded by the Junior League of Springfield, which offered an anger management program specifically for parents and their children. While parents were in one group talking about techniques to control their anger, the kids were in another group. The families then reunited at lunch to talk about what they learned.
Tara Forrester and Jinny Datema created the program. Forrester says it will help kids and parents recognize their "triggers," and then consider ways to control the outbursts. "We try to connect the dots for them," Forrester says. "What we're hoping for is that we can teach the parents and the kids those skills."
